The role of a family worker, working within the field of ‘hidden harm’, is to positively and effectively support ‘families in recovery’, encourage awareness of the impact parental substance misuse has on the wellbeing of children, strengthen parental capacity and prevent intergenerational drug use. Parents’ awareness of ‘hidden harm’ is essential to ensuring rights, needs and wishes of young people are met therefore, as a team we endeavour to ensure interventions with families are empowering, not judgmental, negative or corrective.
Partnership working:
- Social services consultations to pick up and assess suitable cases
- Drop in services in community based settings run by the whole team to engage with hard to reach clients
- Attendance at MARAC
- Working in partnership with substance misuse ante-natal clinic and take the lead on pregnancy work
- Partnership working with domestic abuse services – substance misuse drop in Swansea One Stop Shop to engage with hard to reach clients
- ‘Gilydd’ support group for women involved with social services
- Carers group
