On Thursday 26th January 2023, the Glasgow Overdose Prevention Service (OPS) van will be visiting Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare. This is a great opportunity to have a look in, and discuss, a unique harm reduction service that is currently unavailable, anywhere within the UK.
The Glasgow OPS was set up by Peter Krykant in response to growing drug-related-deaths and HIV cases among people who inject drugs, in Scotland’s second largest city. Peter, along with volunteers, ran the OPS for 10 months in 2020, which oversaw the supervision of over 1,000 injecting episodes and reversed multiple overdose, resulting in the saving of many people’s lives.
You can visit the OPS in Merthyr Tydfil from 12pm – 3pm at Penderyn Square, Castle Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8ZA. You will also be able to have a look in, and discuss the OPS with experts, at the Anyone’s Child event in Aberdare from 6.30pm at St Elvan’s Church, Aberdare Church Street, Aberdare, CF44 7AB. You will also be able to hear from former undercover policeman, Neil Woods and parents who have lost children as a result of substance use.
