Welsh Overdose Awareness Day 2022 takes place on Tuesday 13th December, 2022. This year’s theme is ‘Many Faces‘, with testimonials from those with lived experience of overdose, to professionals who have effectively responded to such situations.
The aim of such occasions is to raise awareness of overdose in Wales, harm reduction interventions to reduce the risk of experiencing an overdose, how to effectively respond, and how people can help by reducing overdose across Wales. The ‘Many Faces’ theme also outlines that there are numerous individuals that play a part in overdose from those directly and indirectly affected by it, those who respond to such situations and people who actively work to try and implement services and harm reduction interventions, to reduce and end overdose in Wales.
We will soon be providing a variety of social media resources that are available to download and use on your own social media channels, as a way to mark the day and raise awareness. We will also have a selection of video’s available to share, via our YouTube Channel.
One way to help reduce overdose in Wales is to carry Naloxone. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that temporarily reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. You can order your free naloxone kit via our Naloxone Click and Deliver Service, and get it delivered to anywhere in Wales.
Don’t forget when marking the day on social media, to use the hashtag #WOAD22.
Utilise the free downloadable social media graphics below, and post via your own channels on Tuesday 13th December. We have provided testimonials by those with lived experience, as well as professionals who have been involved in responding to an overdose, to raise awareness. We hope these get the conversation started among professionals and friends on reducing stigma associated to substance use and how we can all help end overdose in Wales.
Host a ‘harm reduction cafe’, a concept first developed by our friends at HIT, where you could encourage internal and external colleagues to attend an informal event for a couple of hours and chat all things overdose and harm reduction over a cuppa.
