Glasgow Overdose Prevention Service – Peter Krykant set up this service in 2020, without legal sanction, in Glasgow, as a response to the growing overdose issue and HIV rates among people who inject drugs, in the city. In the 10 months it operated, the van facilitated over 1,000 injecting episodes, reversed multiple overdoses and subsequently saved many lives and did not see any deaths. This is an opportunity to have a look at a unique harm reduction intervention, talk to experts regarding such facilities, as well as discuss any questions you may have about the objectives and feasibility of overdose prevention services.

Fairground games – There will be multiple funfair games for all to get involved in, including: Coconut Shy; Hoopla; Giant Jenga; Giant Connect 4, Giant Snakes and Ladders; High Striker; and a Giant Buzz Wire. All of these games will be provided by JM Entertainment.
Silent disco – Why not get your funk on by joining us at our 50th birthday bash and listen to a playlist from your era via our #SilentDisco. No judgements will be made about your dancing, promise! We’ll also have some giant bubbles floating about to get you in the mood!
Art Exhibition – We will be showcasing the entries from this year’s Mike Parry Art Award 2022 competition (entries close Friday 2nd September) as well as those from previous year’s too. This is a perfect opportunity for some reflection and admire some truly talented, inspirational people and their respective pieces. We will be announcing this year’s competition winners too. We will also have an ‘achievements wall’ next to the art exhibition, where people can add their own unique achievements and showcase the successes people have accomplished throughout their lives. If this section of the festival doesn’t inspire you, then we don’t know what will!
Naloxone – You could become a hero if you attend our 50th birthday bash. You will be able to be trained in how to effectively respond to an overdose and receive a free Naloxone kit and ‘Hero’ wristband. You could save a life! We will also have a memorial tree where people can add the names of friends and family that they have lost over the years as a result of a preventable drug-related-death. This will be a space for reflection and a reminder that more needs to be done to reduce and end overdose in Wales.
Spike on a Bike – Spike on a Bike is a service offered by Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service (DDAS) where you can get clean injecting equipment and other harm reduction services delivered straight to your door – fast and for free, throughout Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. This is a truly unique service to not only Wales and the UK, but to Europe. There is only one other service similar to this and that operates in Vancouver, Canada.
50 Year Timeline – We will be showcasing a presentation, throughout the day, highlighting Barod over the last 50 years as well as what come and gone, and for some, stuck around, in the substance use field during during that time. This not only enlighten people as to how far the service and the substance use field has come, but also bring back memories for others too.
