Welsh Overdose Awareness Day 2023

Wednesday 13th December 2023

This year, Welsh Overdose Awareness Day 2023 takes place on Wednesday 13th December, 2023. The main objective of the day is to continue to raise awareness of overdose, with key messages, developed by peers from multiple ‘Naloxone Peer 2 Peer’ projects, aiming to promote harm reduction that can be utilised by anyone.

Below are a variety of social media resources, all developed with peers, that are available to download and use on your own social media channels, as a way to mark the day and raise awareness.

One way to help reduce overdose in Wales is to carry Naloxone. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that temporarily reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. You can order your free naloxone kit via our Naloxone Click and Deliver Service, and get it delivered to anywhere in Wales.

Don’t forget when marking the day on social media, to use the hashtag #WOAD23.

Utilise the free downloadable social media graphics below, and post via your own channels on Wednesday 13th December. We have provided testimonials by those with lived experience, as well as professionals who have been involved in responding to an overdose, to raise awareness. We hope these get the conversation started among professionals and friends on reducing stigma associated to substance use and how we can all help reduce overdose in Wales.

Host a ‘harm reduction cafe’, a concept first developed by our friends at HIT, where you could encourage internal and external colleagues to attend an informal event for a couple of hours and chat all things overdose and harm reduction over a cuppa.

Why not get overdose trained? Access FREE Overdose Awareness E-Learning at Exchange Supplies or get in touch with our training co-ordinator, Lucy Clare at training@barod.cymru for more information about us delivering training to you.

Be Naloxone ready! Naloxone temporarily reverses the effects of an opioid overdose and you can get trained in administering naloxone and get a free kit, from your nearest Barod service. Just ask one of our trained support workers via our Live Webchat Service (bottom right of this screen) to find out where your nearest Barod service is. Alternatively, you can get naloxone delivered straight to your door, for free, but utilising our Click & Deliver Service.
